Jamair Grimes – A Short Biography

On April 8th 1989, at 4:31am, Jamair Grimes was born in Schenectady New York at Saint Clare’s Hospital.  Jamair, like many other African-American children, grew up in a broken home.  Jamair was not raised by either his mother nor his father.  Despite the absence of his parents throughout most of his childhood, Jamair refused to use this as an excuse.  Instead, he took out his frustrations on the basketball courts.

He fell in love with music at an early age, listening to a wide variety of genres.  But hip hop quickly became his inspiration and passion.  Jamair wrote his first song in the fifth grade with classmate and long time friend Charles Lewis.

Jamair began to seriously pursue hip hop music as a lifestyle and career in the 7th grade.  Drawn to the competitive nature and deep emotional expressions of the music, Jamair felt he could communicate with his generation though this powerful art-form.

Like many young adolescents growing up in the ghetto, Jamair found himself caught-up in drugs and alcohol and the culture that surrounds their use and abuse.  To make money, he even turned to selling drugs for a short time.  It wasn’t until April 12th 2004 Jamair decided to clean his act up and turn his life around.

It was at that time that Jamair began attending Church services and studying the Bible. He made a commitment to his God and to himself that he would never turn back to the Streets for help, but instead he would help those who are still caught up in street-culture find their way off the streets and find their way to Christ.  Now, under the hip-hop identity of Prime Artist, Jamair Grimes preaches the Word of God loud and proud on stage with his Christian Brothers through rap music.
